The Gladius
The Gladius was the ionic short sword of the Roman Empire. Romans adopted the weapon from Spanish tribes. This sword was often credited of winning many major battles such as the battles of Zama. During war, this sword is used in close combat to slash or stab the enemy. The Gladius is a short sword. Which means that this weapon will be used at it's best while fighting enemies that have longer range weapons because of their limited movement. This short sword was made and used to win wars for over 600 years.

The Pilum
The Pilum was another main weapon of the Roman Empire. The javelin was most likely adopted in the Samnite Wars (343-290 BC) when the Romans were losing by the Samnites with javelins. This heavy javelin is used to give the Roman army close range mobile artillery. This weapon proved to be one of the most dominating weapons of the Roman Empire. The Pilum was a weapon that helped destroy a military tactic that the famous Alexander the Great used called the Macedonian Phalanx. Roman soldiers would normally carry around 2 of these javelins. They used this weapon to kill, discard shields, or cause confusion to their enemies. The Pilum would have most likely have been thrown at around 20 ft. Then the Roman soldiers would have pushed up to close combat.

Being named after a Latin ward meaning "spear." The Hasta was used during the beginning of Roman history and was a main weapon. This spear was used when the Roman army still used the Macedonian Phalanx style in their warfare tactics. The spear was then never used, until very late in the Roman Empire when they switch back into using it. Unlike the Pilum, this spear was designed specify to kill the enemy. Leaving behind heavy damage once thrown. This spear was very effect proved its self to have belonged in the Roman army
